The Instrument of Surrender was the formal document presented by the leaders of the remaining human nations to the Machine Ambassador at the last session of the United Nations in New York. The document formally ended the conflict between the two forces and signed away control of the last human territories to the machines of Zero One. Although the machines did sign the surrender (in barcode, at that), it did not appease them, as they had their machine ambassador self-destruct in a nuclear blast shortly after delivering an ultimatum to the human race:
"Your flesh is a relic; a mere vessel. Hand over your flesh, and a new world awaits you. We demand it."
When The Second Renaissance: Part II is viewed in high-definition, the text of the document can be discerned. It appears to be modeled after the surrender delivered by the Empire of Japan to the Allies at the end of World War II, with just a few key phrases changed. The text is as follows:
