Mega City

The Mega City is the name of the large, spawling metropolis where much of the events of the Matrix movie trilogy take place. It is the home of programs and bluepills.
[edit] Purpose
Mega City was created by the machines to be a fictional living place for the humankind while they were being used as "batteries". Mega City had everything humankind had in 21st century, the time when the machines were not a threat.

The City is split into four main districts: Downtown, International, Richland (Ironically, this area is called the slums by the redpills) and Westview (or Barrens).

- The names of many of the streets, such as Wells and Lake Streets, suggest that the Mega City is a giant version of the city of Chicago. The Wachowski Brothers grew up in Chicago and apparently added the names in homage to their hometown.
- Facsimiles of other Earth cities do exist within the Matrix. While the Matrix trilogy storyline appears to stay within the Mega City, the computer screen in Neo's apartment (where viewers first see the character in The Matrix, asleep) shows Neo's research. One of the newspaper clippings speak of Morpheus and his escape from Heathrow Airport, in the United Kingdom.
